A Fix for Unsightly Raw Edges That Your Contractor Will Love

We have long heard from shirt and hat makers that raw ends on their accent labels were an annoyance for end-user customers and that there was no easy manufacturing solution. The problem was that creating clean folds on all label edges on the cut & fold equipment commonly used in the industry was slow and difficult.

We took that as a challenge.

Our engineering staff worked closely with our mills to modify their equipment so they could execute the intricate folds needed to move to a cleaner label without operational headaches. Eliminating raw edges required getting three folds into labels so that a loop and a single stitch could affix the label to the edge of the garment or hat band. This innovative new cut-and-fold technique eliminates uncomfortable and unsightly raw edges on accent labels.

The technique, we call the “gator fold”, has already been adopted by several premium apparel brands and is now available for use by all branded apparel companies that want to set themselves apart.

The new tri-fold label can be produced in a variety of fabrics including cotton blends, polyester and rayon and is easily utilized in most automated finishing machines.
